About Collegefootballfan.com

For those of you visiting Collegefootballfan.com for the first time, this website follows a life-long, ongoing commitment to continue to see at least one college football game every week of every college football season.  Collegefootballfan.com has attended games played by every Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) football team in person at least once since 1979.  Every season, we plan attending as many games as possible played within all four divisions of NCAA football.  We focus on traveling to and tailgating at competitive games wherever we can find them.  Basically every Fall Saturday and some weekdays now, too.  Growing up watching college football on TV,  ABC Sports’ Chris Schenkel’s message struck a chord for a lifetime, “College football!  What better way to spend an autumn afternoon?”

And wait until your read about the many autumn afternoons we found so many “better ways”!  Click on our book cover below to buy and enjoy our unique story of how we ventured over 50 years and across the country to see the 132 of 134  FBS teams play for the first time.

Fifty Years of Tailgate Tales: The Good, he Fun and the Ugly

2023 marks the 45th season of this fun, unique history!

Of course, 2020 posed obstacles never imagined before. Collegefootballfan.com started to make up for all of that in 2021.  We got back to our old ways “on the road again”.  With Covid-19 slowing down and college football intact across the country, we attended 21 games. That compared to only three during the previous, Covid-19 ravaged season.  In addition to that, retirement from the “real work world” and our relocation to the Nashville, Tennessee area in 2022 added new options.  This move provided us with new opportunities to expand our college football travels to new campuses never visited before.  We’ve attended games at 81 FBS venues, but 174 in all when counting FCS, D-2, D-3, and neutral sites for college football games.

 Quality as well as Quantity

Eight programs on our schedule cracked the AP’s Final Top 25 poll.  Cincinnati (13-1) finished highest at No. 4, and Baylor (12-2) followed ranked No. 5.  The No. 16 Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns also posted a record of 13-1.  Nineteen football teams witnessed achieved winning seasons, and 15 of them won nine games or more!  One FCS team, East Tennessee State, finished No. 8 losing to eventual National Champ North Dakota State in the FCS quarterfinals.  Of 22 games attended, 11 final scores were within 10 points.  For excitement, most did not settle until the last minute of play.   Click here to see results and upcoming games on 2023 slate.

The Collegefootballfan.com goal

Click here on our History Page.  You will find out we’re focused not only on the FBS level.  We enjoy games played by the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) teams, D-2, and D-3, more for the love of the game.  Every time we go to a gridiron clash played at any level, we try to attend the most competitive games we can find . Of course, that is always planned within our monetary budget and whatever travel constraints we may encounter.

New Opportunities abound!

We are still committed to this unique, fun, life-long adventure!  Both our kids have moved on, respectively to Florida and Texas.  However, that provides us new game travel opportunities.  Sometimes my wife, “Saint Laurie” attends, but many times meeting up with friends and acquaintances made during these many years, the journey continues.  Our move from our native New Jersey to the Nashville, Tennessee area gives us more opportunities to travel to and attend games on campuses never traveled to in the past. However, we’ll still venture back to favorite sites enjoyed along the way. We at Collegefootballfan.com look forward to more great times, travels, and games!  Check out our  schedule for 2023.  With a budget cutback for personal reasons this season, we had to cut back a little bit on travel.  Among teams featured on this year’s slate, we include Tennessee, Penn State vs Illinois and Michigan, Auburn, Missouri, Texas, and Navy against both Air Force and Army. In close proximity to several Conference USA teams, we’ve got several midweek contests on this year’s slate.  Please enjoy our journey with us!
